FOB-X FAQs

Q: When will FOB-X be available for my vehicle?

A: Designing a product through R&D requires time and expense. Due to the significant quantity of makes and models of vehicles, Gear Spot creates products according to market demand. If you're interested in a FOB-X device for your vehicle, please register your interest HERE, and we'll reach out when R&D begins.

If you belong to a group or club for your vehicle, invite others to sign up as well, the more interest we receive, the faster we can start R&D.

Q: Does FOB-X come with the OEM logo or insignia?

A: No. FOB-X is set to become a patented product (Patent Pending), which means it will undergo increased scrutiny regarding the use of other trademarked items. Often, the OEM logo or insignia can be interchanged on FOB-X. For further information, please refer to the product manual.

Q: Once I have received FOB-X, is there anything I need to do?

A: Yes.

  1. To use FOB-X with your vehicle it will need to be programmed to the vehicle.
  2. It is also advised to remove the battery from your OEM key FOBs. If the OEM FOBs are still operable, their signal can be exploited for relay attacks.

Q: How do I program my FOB-X device to my vehicle?

A: Programming FOB-X varies by vehicle. Consult the key’s product manual for instructions and prerequisites. Manuals are only available after R&D is complete.

Note: Some vehicles will require programming by the vehicle OEM or qualified locksmiths with the appropriate software. Any charges for the programming are the reasonability of the customer. The R&D manual or product page will provide some indication on this after R&D has been completed.

Q: Can’t I just put my FOB into an enclosure like a steel box or faraday cage?

A: Yes. You can use a suitable enclosure to block the signal. Remember to take it with you to any locations where you are concerned about relay attacks. Eg when you are on holidays or working away in hotels, caravan parks etc.

Gearspot is not assuring the use of an enclosure will stop relay attacks. You will need to confirm that the enclosure works. This isn't an easy thing to prove as you will have to essentially mimic the use using the tools a thief would.

Q: Will the FOB-X device stop my vehicle from being stolen.

A: No. There are various methods by which vehicles can be
stolen. FOB-X is designed to address theft committed through relay attacks.
